Quilts Given to Local Veterans
On February 17th at the Hampshire, 18 quilts were given to local World War II veterans. The Elks Lodge Veterans Committee, mainly Ken Wenrich, compiled the list of veterans and organized the set-up at the Hampshire. Ernie Connors, committee chairman, conducted a prayer and ceremony before the presentations. I spoke about the guild and its Quilters Embrace Project and told the story of the label, "What you hold in your arms is a quilter's embrace." The veterans enjoyed the recognition and receiving the quilts.
Guild President Louise King and members Kimberly Farnham and Pat Skaggs helped distribute quilts along with the veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard.
The Elks Veterans Committee in the past took quilts to the Fresno Veterans Administration Hospital. However, this past year the committee wanted to give locally. They plan to give locally again in November of this year.
Guild members are invited to participate in this project if they would like. Completed quilts should be in patriotic fabrics of colors, red, white and blue. Other accident colors may also be used. The finished quilt should measure 40" wide to 52-56" long. Contact Dale Wagner or myself with any questions.
Sincerely, Virginia Wagner
